n 2001, a group of individuals including the local town counsel came together to establish what is now known as the Arlington Business Improvement District, or BID. The purpose of the BID is to enhance and encourage the growth of Arlington Businesses through marketing (events, website, promotional material), beautification (landscaping, lighting, maintaining the cleanliness of the business district and encouraging businesses to do the same) while adhering to a budget and to the laws governing the tax district. The budget begins with an additional tax paid to the Town of Poughkeepsie by all commercial property owners within the district. This money is then released to the Arlington BID and is overseen by an elected Board of Directors comprised of Town officials, property owners and tenants within the district. The Board of Directors is all volunteers and they hire a Manager to oversee the daily tasks of the BID itself.

The BID is here to help businesses within the district grow and to bring new business opportunities into the district. Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Arlington Business Improvement District and we encourage anyone if you have even the slightest amount of time to offer, consider being a part of one of the following committees: Events/Marketing, Beautification, Budget, & Nominating Committee (for Board Members).

The Arlington Business District has hired Think Social First to market the businesses within the district on our social media sites. Please send us photos (of employees and products), event updates, promotions for us to announce as well as gift cards for contest giveaways (helps increase likes and reach on social media).
