Poughkeepsie Farm Project Kicks Off Harvest Season with

Farm Fest and Plant Sale

Family friendly event set to take place as organization celebrates 20th anniversary

This year, Poughkeepsie Farm Project is celebrating 20 years of sustainable agriculture and food justice work in the City of Poughkeepsie and will kick off its harvest season with the annual Farm Fest and Plant Sale over two Saturdays this spring: Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

The Farm Fest and Plant Sale is a family-friendly event, offering story-telling for children, hands-on gardening activities, live musical entertainment, interactive farm tours and food courtesy. A craft farmers market will feature Poughkeepsie-made pottery, Willow Vale Farms hand-woven baskets, Back Paddock Farm grass-fed beef and locally-roasted coffee from North River Roasters.

“We have been working hard for the last 20 years to serve as an important community resource linking food, farm, and the people of Poughkeepsie,” said Ray Armater, executive director, Poughkeepsie Farm Project. “We are excited to get our community involved, and to offer this exciting and fun-filled opportunity for folks to meet our farmers and experience this unique urban farmstead.”

Founded in 1999, Poughkeepsie Farm Project provides innovative garden and nutrition education to over 4,000 youth in the Poughkeepsie City School District. It is also the City of Poughkeepsie’s largest farm, growing 200,000 pounds of produce for a 600-member community supported agriculture (CSA) program. The farm donates 35,000 pounds of food annually to area food pantries and organizations including Dutchess Outreach and Hudson River Housing.
